OCIC Community Services
OCIC helps to build the community through various maintenance programs. Safety and cleanliness are key goals to making residents and visitors feel welcome. The services OCIC provide augment the waste management and policing provided by the City of Oakland.
Is there something in Chinatown that needs attention?
Cleaning & Maintenance
Keeping our streets accessible is a core goal of OCIC. OCIC has contractors to perform regular sidewalk sweeping and cleaning. Part of this program includes painting over graffiti and maintaining a more sanitary environment. OCIC is working with the City of Oakland and the World Wildlife Foundation to help the community with refuse and food waste, encourage composting and recycling, and keeping the storm drains free of garbage.

Safety
OCIC works with community organizations, local law enforcement and private security organizations to create a safe environment for Chinatown. Toishan Association volunteer members walk the streets of Chinatown in orange vests daily and report problems to the Oakland Police.
Family Bridges Ambassadors work with businesses and residents to address issues of safety and cleanliness around the neighborhood. The Ambassadors have a keen understanding of the issues concerning the neighborhood and help to build relationships and resolve conflicts.
The City of Oakland has police officers working with various Chinatown organizations to better understand the needs of the neighborhood. The City of Oakland has implemented a MACRO team to assist with issues of homelessness and mental health.
To further improve safety, OCIC has contracted with a licensed security company to implement night patrols. The teams patrol the area throughout the night and into the early morning.

Community Events
To promote the community and its businesses, OCIC will be organizing events throughout the year. We organized the Oakland Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade along with the Toishan Benevolent Association, the first parade in Chinatown in more than 50 years. We also work with other community organizations to coordinate, promote and support events that will benefit the community and Oakland.
